Summary of responsibilities The overall responsibility of the Nutrition Program Manager (NPM) is to provide leadership and oversee all aspects of International Medical Corps’ nutrition program in South Sudan. Key functions will include program development and donor reporting, technical backstopping and guidance on program implementation, staff capacity building, budget management, representation and coordination with nutrition cluster partners and Ministry of Health (MOH). The NPM will ensure high quality nutrition programs in line with International Medical Corps’ nutrition strategies and adapting them to specific strategies, protocols or guidelines of Republic of South Sudan. Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work: • Ensure that the implementation of the nutrition programs conform to internationally accepted standards and South Sudan national guidelines • Provide technical support and supervision of nutrition activities to national and international staff implementing nutrition programs in South Sudan • Provide technical leadership and support for conducting nutrition and coverage surveys, prepare reports and disseminate to appropriate audience within the nutrition cluster. • Ensure appropriate financial management of program related budget lines, develop and implement work plans. • Assess training needs of IMC and MoH staff and develop a training program in state of the art nutrition approaches including integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM), infant and young child feeding (IYCF), nutrition in emergencies etc • Ensure the establishment and strengthening of nutrition monitoring and information systems • Lead the development of new nutrition programs, including assessments, proposal writing/development and donor outreach and reporting. • Ensure synergy between nutrition component and other sectors ( Health & WASH) within IMC • Conduct and train nutrition staff on surveys including nutrition and coverage surveys, causal analysis, and other assessments of nutritional status of target groups. • Represent International Medical Corps in Nutrition Cluster and other relevant forums. Key Qualifications and competencies: • Master’s degree in Nutrition or Public Health plus 5 years of relevant work experience (minimum 3 years in developing country or emergency response); • Minimum of 3 years work experience in CMAM, IYCF and BCC required; • Program development and management experience in a humanitarian and/or emergency situation required, including all aspect of program cycle management; • Very strong writing skills in English required; Proven experience writing high-quality proposals, reports and external communication materials required; • Ability to train national and international staff on state-of-the-art approaches to nutrition response in emergencies; • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, develop timetables for agreed activities and oversee staff activities; • Strong organizational and supervisory skills; • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments; • Demonstrate a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines; • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently; • Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations; • Ability to relate to and motivate staff effectively; • Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources; • Ability and willingness to travel to rural locations and live in basic conditions; • Previous experience working for an international NGO in developing countries required; • Previous experience in Sub-Saharan Africa desired; PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear.
