During an assessment of stocks for a CMAM project, I came across large quantities of PN and F75 milk which was due to expire within 2 months. I contacted our partners and give then what they could take but still there was more. I had earlier on heard in Darfur that F75 could be added to UNIMIX/CSB/FAMIX in certain ratio to avoid wastage. Could someone share with me the recipe for this?
Using the F75 to add to a premix with the CSB/Unimix/Famix is the best way of using it safely and usefully. There doesnt seem to be a standard recipe or guideline but for example, Table 22 in the WHO 'Management of Nutrition in Major Emergencies' suggests adding 50g of DSM to 140g of CSB (along with oil and sugar). I would suggest going for about 10% F75 added to the SFP mix but also calculate the kcals and energy:protein ratio. For RUTF, if it is from Nutriset they can often issue a certificate to extend the expiry date if you contact them and give the batch numbers.
