USAID Advancing Nutrition’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) team has finalized a generic package of training materials and counseling cards to promote holistic early childhood development to address this global need, titled the Responsive Care and Early Learning (RCEL) Addendum. This generic package is currently in English. Using the English-language generic package, USAID Advancing Nutrition will translate the package into three other languages—Arabic, French, and Spanish.

We are contracting an ECD consultant (one per language) with native-level proficiency in Arabic/French/Spanish to review translations for the RCEL Addendum package. This will be both a technical review (i.e. review for the appropriate use of terms, accuracy), as well as grammatical review (e.g. footers and headers are correct, acronyms are referenced properly).

The consultants are expected to:

  • Develop/contribute to a list of key ECD terms and phrases in both English and the second language
  • Review the package of materials following initial translation paying close attention to technical terms and grammatical review
  • Provide a final review of the package of materials following layout

In addition, the Arabic-speaking consultant will also review approximately 40-45 adapted illustrations for the Middle East and North Africa adapted RCEL Addendum package to adi the illustrator in contextual adaptations.

The LOE for this consultancy is approximately 15 days for the French- and Spanish-speaking consultants and 17 days for the Arabic-speaking consultant from about the end of June/early July through mid-September.

Consultant requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in global health, nutrition, early childhood development, or a related field
  • Professional experience with early childhood development and nutrition programming, in particular integrating nurturing care (including but not limited to responsive care and early learning) into health and nutrition services
  • Native-level proficiency in Arabic/French/Spanish and experience using Arabic/French/Spanish regularly in a professional setting and in relation to early childhood development and nutrition
  • Fluency in English.
