NUTRITION IN EMERGENCIES (NiE)
12-DAY COURSE PILOT

This 2-week pilot course led by experts in nutrition and emergency response is aimed at entry-level nutrition practitioners and emergency responders (internal and external to Emory University,) or those in other fields with a very strong interest in nutrition in emergencies but little experience. It is a rare opportunity for in-depth and context specific training in the dynamic and diverse field of nutrition response. The curriculum consists of both presentations and interactive case studies.
Specific topics to be covered include:
1) The humanitarian system
2) The nutrition cluster
3) The causes of malnutrition
4) Vulnerable populations in emergencies
5) Nutrition needs assessment and analysis
6) Infant and young child feeding in emergencies (IYCF-E)
7) Community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM)
8) Prevention and treatment of micronutrient deficiencies
9) Food and cash assistance
10) Food security and livelihoods (FSL)
11) Intersections with WASH and health
12) Social behavior change (SBC) in emergencies
13) Logistics of emergency nutrition
14) Monitoring & evaluation of nutrition (M&E)
LIMITED TO 25 PARTICIPANTS
The course is free for all pilot participants. However, participants are responsible for their transportation, housing, and other costs.
