International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. PROGRAM SUMMARY: International Medical Corps is a member of the Coverage Monitoring Network project (CMN). CMN is an inter-agency initiative led by ACF, Concern Worldwide, International Medical Corps and Helen Keller International. The project aims to increase and improve coverage monitoring of nutrition programs at a global level, in particular across West, Central, Southern and Eastern Africa. It also aims to identify, analyze and share lessons learned to improve nutrition policy and practice across the areas with a high prevalence of acute malnutrition. Through a team of three (3) Regional Coverage Advisors and three (3) Community Mobilization Advisors, hosted by partner organizations, the project will provide technical support to nutrition programs in the design, implementation and analysis of coverage assessments. The project is currently scheduled to run from January 1st 2014 to December 31st 2015. JOB SUMMARY: The project will be hiring 3 Community Mobilization Advisors (CMA), two will be hosted by ACF and one will be hosted by International Medical Corps. The purpose of the CMA is to improve the performance of nutrition programs in 3 selected countries by supporting the development of community mobilization strategies to boost CMAM programme access and uptake. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • To support nutrition programs in the development of context-specific, culturally-appropriate community mobilization strategies to boost access and uptake of nutrition treatment programs. The advisor will be responsible for delivering support to nutrition programs in three (3) of the nine (9) priority countries of the CMN project (Burkina Faso, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Pakistan and South Sudan). • To support the CMN in the development of toolkits and guidelines for community mobilization in nutrition programs. This will include reviewing existing good practices and lessons learned from nutrition programs worldwide, as well as the broader public health sector. • To support the Regional Coverage Advisors in the development of country-level mapping exercises designed to identify context-specific opportunities and challenges for improving access and coverage of nutrition programs. • To support the Regional Coverage Advisors in the implementation of country-level workshops reviewing lessons learned and good practices in boosting access to nutrition treatment programs. The advisor will be responsible for support workshops in three (3) designated countries. • To support the CMN team and Regional Coverage Advisors in the effective implementation of other project activities, including peer-reviewed publications and other information sharing initiatives. Qualifications: Qualifications • Master’s degree in social & behavioral sciences, Nutrition, or international development with a focus on humanitarian response, and development management. Experience and Knowledge Required • Required substantial knowledge and proven experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating community mobilization activities and social and behavior change communications (SBCC) approaches in nutrition or other public health programs in low-income countries. • Required, training experience in community mobilization and social behavior change communication focused on communities, field workers, local NGO staff or government workers. • Proven leadership skills and experience in creating, establishing and negotiating relationships and building alliances and networks with various stakeholders at community and senior levels. • Strong understanding of development and humanitarian issues, especially Policy and Strategy development • Ability to communicate orally in English and to write clearly and succinctly in English, for a range of audiences, from lengthy formal submissions to short articles for social media or blogs; • Data management and analytical experience • IT literate (MS Windows) • Desirable to have additional languages including French.
