Data Analyst with GIS Expertise (Retainer Position)

We are seeking a skilled Data Analyst with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for a retainer position. This role offers flexibility in engagement, allowing you to contribute your data analysis and GIS expertise to various projects based on our evolving needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection, Cleaning, and Management:
    • Gather and organize spatial and statistical data from various sources.
    • Perform data cleaning and preprocessing using Python, R, or Stata for both GIS and quantitative data sets.
    • Maintain necessary structures for GIS data storage and comprehensive geospatial documentation for reference purposes.
  • Advanced Spatial and Statistical Analysis:
    • Conduct complex spatial analyses using GIS software and statistical analyses using Stata, R, or Python.
    • Apply machine learning algorithms for pattern recognition and predictive modeling.
  • Mapping, Visualization, and Reporting:
    • Create advanced maps, charts, and visualizations using GIS and visualization tools in Python or R.
    • Develop interactive dashboards and detailed reports to communicate findings using PowerBi or Tableau.
  • Quantitative Research and Modeling:
    • Design and execute quantitative research studies with spatial components.
    • Utilize statistical techniques and GIS models for comprehensive analysis.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and provide technical support.
    • Present complex data analyses to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their application in spatial and quantitative data analysis.

    • Ability to design and conduct rigorous quantitative and spatial research.
    • Critical thinking skills for effective interpretation and application of research findings.
  • Project Management and Collaboration:
    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple data projects.

Requirements:

  • University degree within the field of geography, computer science, environmental science, epidemiology, or another related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience acquired in positions relevant to the job description.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and executing spatial analysis methodologies, integrating both qualitative and quantitative spatial data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, adept at translating complex GIS findings into clear and understandable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Track record of contributing to research projects with evidence of impactful results and contributions to research publications.
  • Knowledge in nutrition, public health, or food security is desirable and would be advantageous for understanding and contextualizing GIS analyses within these domains.
