FHI 360 Crisis Response Team requires the services of a highly skilled Emergency Nutrition Consultant to support HQ and Country Office staff by leading the start-up of emergency nutrition activities to build technical capacity (CMAM and MIYCN-E) among national and international organizations implementing health programs in target geographies. The consultant will conduct field-based capacity assessments of the selected partners, identify capacity needs, design the modalities to develop capacity, and provide on-site and remote support to implement activities. The consultant will provide implementing partners with the appropriate tools and resources to continue their emergency nutrition implementation and quality assurance/improvement of activities post-consultancy. While in-country, the consultant will also support FHI 360 HQ and field teams identify nutrition activities that FHI 360 can directly implement and contribute to project proposal design.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

Attend nutrition and food security meetings and meet with implementing partners to understand nutritional challenges and best practices

Conduct emergency nutrition capacity assessments for identified partners (organization and individuals)

Conduct rapid community assessments in selected areas to identify critical nutrition needs focusing on IYCF-E and maternal nutrition

Liaise with the nutrition cluster and to collect emergency nutrition tools including recording and reporting tools and requirements

Design and lead capacity building activities for partners such as workshops and on-the-job trainings focusing on CMAM and IYCF-E

In coordination with the nutrition cluster and partners, mentor and coach, selected health and nutrition partners to address capacity gaps on CMAM, IYCF-E and micronutrient supplementation

Liaise with UNICEF, WFP, and supported partners to ensure partners understand and arrange for a continued pipeline of nutrition commodities.

Identify technical and geographic gaps in emergency nutrition coverage where FHI 360 would have a strategic advantage in direct implementation.

Coordinate with the Health, WASH, Nutrition and Protection Coordinator to identify integration opportunities for a medium, long-term integration with the emergency nutrition response

Contribute and support to the technical design of FHI 360 emergency nutrition proposal including budget inputs.

Support other tasks provided by the Crisis Response Team 

Deliverables:

Assessment report and recommendations

Finalized list of areas and partners to support

Capacity development plans, tools and materials

Trainings to selected partners.

Development and adaptation of emergency nutrition tools.

Produce draft proposal technical narrative, budget inputs, and implementation plan for nutrition programming

Location of Work

Qualifications

Master’s degree or its International Equivalent, experience in Nutrition, Public Health or related technical field

At least 8 years of professional experience in designing, implementing, or supporting nutrition programming, specifically within a humanitarian context

Experience establishing and leading successful startup operations/projects in complex emergencies situations

Expertise in addressing acute malnutrition, use of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF)-E, maternal nutrition, supplementation and micronutrients

Strong technical skills in multi-sectoral nutrition programming, including health, WASH and food security are preferred

Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency or related industry experience

Sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned area

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
