Position Opening: The George Washington University, Milken Institute School of Public Health for a Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Global Health (Humanitarian Health)
The Program in Humanitarian Health within the Department of Global Health at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University is seeking a 12-month (full-time) tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor. The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a diverse and growing faculty, with a research portfolio of over $90 million. As the only School of Public Health in the nation’s capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with US government agencies such as the Agency for International Development (Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance) and the National Institutes of Health, as well as with international organizations such as the World Bank, the World Food Program, the International Committee of the Red Cross and with the many prominent international non-governmental organizations that are headquartered in close proximity to the School.
The responsibilities of this position will include research, teaching, and practice in the provision of health services to affected populations in humanitarian settings. The successful candidate will play an active role in offering and maintaining a Humanitarian Health Program that will include expanding the related curricula in the MPH and DrPH programs, in developing an externally-funded research program in areas relevant to the provision of assistance to marginalized and extremely vulnerable populations in disaster-affected and humanitarian situations, and in being a source of high-quality technical assistance to all of the categories of organizations mentioned previously.
Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have either a doctoral degree (i.e., PhD, DrPH, ScD) or a medical plus public health degree (i.e., MD & MPH/MSc) in a field related to the provision of humanitarian assistance, including but not limited to the control of infectious diseases, NCDs or chronic disease, nutrition, maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, gender- based violence, water/sanitation, medical anthropology/sociology, program development or implementation, monitoring and evaluation, health promotion, and health economics. Evidence of direct experience in working in the humanitarian sector and in humanitarian settings, evidence of a record of publications and teaching, commensurate with the academic rank, and evidence of strong commitment to educating and working with the next generation of leaders in this field are required.
