The EU Aid Volunteers initiative provides an opportunity to European citizens and long-term residents, from a wide range of backgrounds and with a diversity of skills and professional experience, to get involved in humanitarian aid projects, support the provision of needs based humanitarian aid in third countries and engage in volunteering opportunities through deployment.

Position summary
Concern’s programme in 2019 will continue around achieving the five strategic goals, including strengthening the resilience of the extremely poor and focus on the humanitarian imperative of saving lives and reducing suffering. The focus will continue to be an integrated context-based approach with a strong emphasis on equality, in order to address the multidimensional nature of extreme poverty and to tackle the specific barriers that confront the extreme poor in Tahoua, Diffa and Tillaberi regions. Within this programme, projects that tackle malnutrition and ensure food security will be the core of Concern’s programming and the interventions on which the EUAV will be supporting the country team. Particularly Concern will continue its support at the community level to ensure that children and pregnant/lactating women are screened and referred to treatment programmes, defaulters and absentees are followed-up and important health and nutrition education is provided. The focus in 2019 will be at the community level with the withdrawal of direct support of CMAM activities to the Health Centres by the end of 2019. Concern will continue to scale up its efforts for the uptake of the CMAM Surge Model by the government and other partners in Niger and the Sahel Region. Concern will continue its active engagement in nutrition forums, promoting the integration of quality treatment of acute malnutrition into health services in Niger through the sharing of lessons learned, harmonized and standardized approaches, and increased advocacy Concern played a central role in the development of the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) model, having partnered with Valid International to pilot the first Community-based Therapeutic Care (CTC) programme in Ethiopia in 2000. The development of the CMAM Surge approach is the critical next step in the evolution of CMAM, allowing it to be scaled up effectively within health systems in vulnerable contexts where it is most needed. The CMAM Surge approach is primarily designed as a localized health system strengthening approach, designed to support better anticipation, preparation for, and coping with periodic surges in demand for the management of severe acute malnutrition. Concern has implemented the CMAM Surge approach in Kenya, Uganda, and Niger, as well as recently having started the approach in Burundi, Chad, Ethiopia, and Pakistan. Concern has been implementing the CMAM Surge approach in Tahoua Region since 2014. The objective of this position is to support the coordination mechanism of the Niger and of the Sahel level CMAM Surge Task Force for Concern in Niger, with a view to integrate CMAM Surge into existing, national-level CMAM Surge guidance and to develop Niger-specific guidance, materials, and tools for use by all partners and facilities implementing Surge across Niger. The CMAM Taskforce was formed in April 2018 with the purpose of providing a forum where CMAM Surge implementers from the Sahel can share emerging learning, guidance, tools and plans and in this way contribute to the scale up of the approach across the Sahel. The Niger CMAM Surge Task Force is country-level coordination mechanism and serves as a link to the regional level Task Force.

Volunteer Allowance;
In line with EU Aid Volunteer daily allowances

• Whilst in Niger €476.63 per month
