BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
Under the supervision of the Head of Nutrition Unit and the Head of the VAM unit, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring all assessments and analysis integrate nutrition, providing timely inforrmation to guide programming and will be required to undertake the following:

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Joint Assessment of Nutrition and Food Security;
• Lead the coordination, planning and standardisation of methods for regular and adhoc nutrition assessments including analysis, report preparation and dissemination;
• Act as a resource person for designing and implementing periodic and rapid nutrition food security and nutrition assessments;
• Build capacity of staff and partners to undertake assessments;
• Take a lead on nutrition aspect of the various urban food security and nutrition assessments conducted by WFP in collaboration with partners;
• Conduct food security and nutrition linkages’ analysis to determine factors underlying the food security and nutrition situation in various parts of South Sudan and highlight programmatic considerations that emanate from linked analysis;
• Devise enhanced nutrition analysis from routine nutrition monitoring systems such as the “Beyond the food consumption score analysis”.
Support Monitoring of Programmes/ Nutrition Sensitive Programming;
• Support development and use of the in-house Nutrition Information System as well as the monitoring and reporting frameworks for nutrition programmes;
• Provide input into targeting criteria for special nutrition programmes based on assessment findings;
• Integration of nutrition into scheme for prioritization of assistance and support development of guidelines for integrated food security and nutrition prioritization schemes;
• Provide analysis that demonstrates the nutritional effect of nutrition sensitive programmes including context specific evidence to support scale up nutrition sensitive programmes;
• Ensure integration of nutrition in mobile VAM data collection and analysis/reporting of findings;
Support Food Security and Nutrition Monitoring System:
• Be the nutrition focal person for FSNMS providing inputs on the sampling plan, training of enumerators on the nutrition tool, data analysis and report write up for nutrition part;
• Liaise with other nutrition partners, particularly UNICEF, FAO, NBS and NGOs;
Support Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC);
• Serve as WFP focal person for nutrition inputs to IPC analysis;
• Take a lead on behalf of WFP on IPC nutrition analysis;
• Contribute to training of relevant staff members form various organizations on IPC nutrition analysis
Optimizing Use of Data from Surveys, Monitoring Systems, Studies;
• Maintain a database of nutrition indicators routinely collected in surveys, monitoring systems; and others;
• Share routine analytical products on trends and factors underlying food security and nutrition outcomes while tailoring assessments and analysis to contexts and needs.
Specialized Studies to support programmes;
• Recommend analysis to generate suitable response options to heightened under nutrition and food insecurity;
• Support operational research for enhanced programme efficiency and effectiveness;
Engagement in National Nutrition and Food Security Information Forums;
• Liaise with national and international organizations, establishing sound relationship with different agencies for effective collaboration and common understanding nutrition analysis;
• Provide dedicated and expert engagement in IPC exercises while providing technical support to the nutrition information working group and related fora.
• Advocate for the role of nutrition in food security and vice versa and implications to programmes;
Other:
• Closely work with other members of the Nutrition and VAM Units in order to complement each other and learn from one another;
• Perform additional tasks assigned by the Head of the Unit

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Advanced university degree in one of the following disciplines: Nutrition, Food Security, Public Health, Dietetics or Social sciences
Experience: 6 years experience in nutrition and food security assessments, a humanitarian organization including emergency settings
Knowledge & Skills: ……
Languages: Working knowledge (proficiency/Level C) of English
