From our experience in the application of OTP, the staff usually ask about how to monitor a child who has been admitted with bilateral edema? Can we use 15% of the wieght on admission which is irrelevant with the presence of edema? Shall we discharged him\her when edema subsides? Also how we can calculate the amount of nuts Plumpy for him\her ?
Based on current practice in Sierra Leone, children admitted for nutritional oedema in the OTP are discharged when the oedema subsides (no oedema) and the child is clinically well. Calculation of plumpy nut is based on body weight and the period for which you want to provide supply for which should be indicated on a lookup table.

Thanks so much Josephine i was confused because edema increases the weight of the child, yes will stick to discharge when edema subsides..
