Title Nutrition programme manager Location Niger, multiple field sites Length of Assignment : 3 months (extendable to 5 months) Starting date: ASAP Line Management Responsibility (Name/s) None Budget Responsibility None Assignment Purpose: Nutrition is at stake at this period in Niger and Save the Children aims to ensure large and quality nutrition programmes to take in charge malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women. To reach this aim, human resources in the nutrition sector need to be strengthen. The Nutrition Programme Manager will be mainly based on the field and will be expected to lead a capacity assessment, to evaluate constraints in programme implementation, to train staff, launch activities as described in proposals, and proposed action plans for each base to ensure good quality programmes and implementation of planned activities. She/He will work in collaboration with existing nutrition staff and his/her works will be predominantly supportive and mentoring to the existing staff to ensure good practice. She/he will also collaborate with Districts health staff and other Save the Children sectors. He will work in close collaboration with the Health Nutrition officer based in Niamey. He may be requested to work on donors reports. Objectives and Outputs: • Lead capacity assessments in health structures of the 3 bases where Save the Children works. Ensure that assessments findings are documented; • Evaluate programmes weaknesses, constraints, strengths and opportunities; • Following these capacity assessments and evaluation, propose actions plans to ensure a good programme quality. Ensure that these actions plan are put in place. • Prepare and oversee projects implementation to ensure timely delivery of project activities. • Participate in timely programme and donor reports on project activities in compliance with internal SC requirements and any relevant external donor requirements. • Identify technical staffing needs and needs for training for ongoing nutrition programmes in the field and when required support recruitment, induction and training of new local staff. • Follow up SMART surveys implementation and provide technical support if required • To ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross Code of Conduct. • To ensure integration (where appropriate) with other sectors, especially looking to strengthen the links between health programmes and nutrition, WASH and shelter whilst mainstreaming HIV. To encourage teams to have an integrated approach to emergency responses. Essential Competencies: • Nutrition professional with postgraduate qualification or equivalent field experience • Experience in CMAM • Previous experience of managing a team • Previous experience of project management • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation • Experience of training and capacity building staff • Excellent communication skills • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy • French is compulsory Desirable • Experience in health programmes Please send your CV to b.mounier@savethechildren.org.uk
