The German Red Cross is part of a world wide community assisting victims of conflict, disaster and people affected by social or health-related crisis. The Red Cross movement provides vulnerable people with assistance exclusive of discrimination of nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven principles of the Red Cross movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross intervenes in disaster response and rehabilitation, health, social and environmental as well as capacity building projects in cooperation with international sister organisations within the movement. The German Red Cross is carrying out a project to improve primary health and nutrition for war-effected population in Northern Dafur, Sudan together with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) in the Sudan. To support our project, the International Cooperation Department of the German Red Cross is looking for a project manager with a public healthcare and/or nutrition background. Duration: 12 months, starting from September, 15th 2012 Responsibilities In close collaboration with our national partner, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society: • Manage the appropriate implementation of the food security project funded by European Commission, Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection (ECHO) The project activities are: • Supporting health facilities in catchments’ area providing quality primary healthcare services • Prepare and respond to disease outbreaks • Support SRCS nutrition services according SPHERE standards • Strengthen structure and build up capacity of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society especially in primary healthcare and nutrition • Ensure the ownership of the local project team for the project implementation • Ensure active involvement of the community in the project • Produce adequate monitoring and project reports together with the project staff • Carry out close financial management and budget control • Build up the capacity of the local partner in programme and finance management • Handing over the project implementation to the local partner at the end of the funded project period Required Skills • Specialist in public / community health and/or nutrition • Minimum of 3-5 years working experience in management of rural development projects • Strong project management skills, including Project Cycle Management and Participatory Methods • Knowledge in financial and administrative project management • Ability to train and guide local community and the project team in a participatory way • Experience and readiness to work in remote areas • Knowledge of Red Cross/ Red Crescent principles and willingness to adhere to them • Readiness to go on assignment without partner / no family posting • Very Good knowledge of English • Intercultural sensitivity • Certified ability to work under tropical conditions (medical check) We offer our delegates comprehensive training and briefing and medical check ups before and after missions.
