have LNS [lipid based nutritional supplements] been tried /studied for undernourished pregnant and lactating mothers??

Hello Kiran Deshpande, A study was done in Burkina Faso in 2009 looking at the effect of giving a LNS product: 72 g providing 1.56 MJ (372 kcal) and 14.7 g protein, and fortified with UNICEF/WHO/UNU International Multiple Micronutrient Preparation (UNIMMAP). The article can be found at this link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19812173 Huybregts L, Roberfroid D, Lanou H, et al. Prenatal food supplementation fortified with multiple micronutrients increases birth length: a randomized controlled trial in rural Burkina Faso.Am J Clin Nutr. 2009 Dec;90(6):1593-600. Also, the International Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements (iLiNS) Project is a good source of information: http://www.ilins.org/ . The project is evaluating the efficacy of LNS for pregnant and lactating women (in addition to one for young children). If you have any questions, you can feel free to email me at nhenretty@edesiaglobal.org . Thanks, Nicole
