Action Against Hunger (ACF)-USA is part of the ACF-International Network which works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy.
In order to beef up the response team and provide initial support in the implementation of key activities in the IFE/IYCN, ACF –USA is seeking the services of a highly trained and experienced IFE/IYCN professional for a period of 4 months.
IFE (Infant Feeding in Emergencies)_IYCN (Infant and Young Child Nutrition) EXPERT
The IFE_IYCN Expert will be responsible for offering technical support and setting up systems on IYCN in Dadaab refugee camp. Focussing on the following key areas:
• Supporting the integration of IFE/IYCN in the routine health and nutrition services for children 0 to <24 months of age.
• In liaison with UNHCR and other key partners in the camps, develop a monitoring plan to ensure adherence to protocols for Infant Feeding in Emergencies to protect, promote and support optimal infant and young child feeding.
• Developing appropriate plans and activities for increasing the proportion of pregnant women who take iron supplementation for 90 days;
• Offering technical guidance in the promotion and support of improved nutritional care of children from birth to 24 months with early initiation of breastfeeding increased > 80 %, exclusive breastfeeding increased by 20 % and increased optimal feeding (food frequency and continued breastfeeding up to 24 months);
• Leading the ACF-USA nutrition team in developing a comprehensive plan for activities in support of optimal complementary feeding practices in the refugee camps and in key strategic areas like the reception areas, registration points, in the blocks and among the general refugee population;
• Offering insight into the documentation process of IFE/IYCN best practices throughout the lifespan of the project
Qualifications and Skills required
• Advanced Degree in Nutrition, Public Health or Nursing
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of Infant Feeding Practices, the International Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes and preferably the Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies Operational Guidance;
• Assessment skills in infant feeding practices;
• Knowledge and experience of the humanitarian environment in crises;
• Established excellence in written communication, including the preparation of documents to meet strict deadlines;
• Strong personal communication skills, ability to facilitate liaison between different sectors
• Good training skills, with a proven ability to build capacity of others.
• Fluent in spoken and written English
• Good initiative, ability to work independently
• Knowledge and skills in basic computing, including Word and Excel
