Chemonics International seeks a nutrition specialist/researcher for the USAID-funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) project. FEWS NET collaborates with international, regional, and national partners to provide timely and rigorous early warning and vulnerability information on emerging and evolving food security issues. The project seeks to attain baseline measurements of key food security indicators through lot quality assessment samplings (LQAS). We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. Responsibilities include: Design and implement two sub-national LQAS small-sample nutrition surveys using Centers for Disease Control standards representative of target areas in northeastern Afghanistan Coordinate survey coordination in collaboration with FEWS NET and partners Develop and finalize budget and budget timeline, survey design, sampling plan, and training protocol Assist local partners in hiring enumerators; lead enumerator training Supervise field-testing, data collection, and data entry Conduct analysis, write assessment report, and present findings Qualifications include: Advanced degree in public health, nutrition, or related field Knowledge of food security, health, and nutrition issues Minimum five years of experience in small sample methods and designing and conducting nutrition surveys Excellent statistical analysis or software and nutrition data analysis skills, including use of ENA/SMART software Exceptional research and report writing skills Working experience in Afghanistan or other post-conflict regions preferred English fluency required; fluency in Pashto or Dari a plus Please send electronic submissions of CV and cover letter to fewsafghanistan@chemonics.com by September 20, 2011.
