Does anyone use MUAC to assess malnutrition status in non-pregnant, non-breastfeeding women? If so, what cut-offs do you use, and how do you interpret the results?
Dear Colleague
We are currently working on this topic in a sub-working Group on Adult/adolescent malnutrition, which falls under the Wasting Global Thematic Working Group of the GNC. We are trying to identify MUAC cut-offs for SAM without complications that could enroll for outpatient treatment. So your question is very pertinent. Please contact me in 2 weeks again so we could share some preliminary results. But keep in mind, the answer is not easy or very straightforward. :) Mija (mververs@cdc.gov and mververs@jhu.edu)

Would you be able to share your preliminary findings and first recommendations for MUAC cut-offs for SAM without complications to enrol Adult/adolescent women for outpatient treatment?
Many thanks!

7 days agoHi all, we are working on the MUAC cut-offs for adolescents and adults (and possibly for those who are 5 years and older). We are doing that as part of work by a sub-working group under the global wasting WG. We have the materials, but we still need to present them outside our smaller sub-WG to the larger wasting group and gather some feedback/consensus before releasing the work. And.... we still need to find the best format to report it. Give us a little bit more time and please contact me by email on this as the email addresses were provided in this post. Thanks so much, Mija
