Join World Vision for this webinar in the Health and Nutrition ‘Research in Action’ series. The Family MUAC approach empowers mothers and other caregivers to identify early signs of malnutrition in their children with a simple to use Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape. Panelists will share research findings from Family MUAC studies in South Sudan, Kenya, and Ethiopia:

  1. Caregiver use of MUAC tapes in South Sudan: a three-group prospective comparison (World Vision, Johns Hopkins University, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
  2. Family MUAC supported by a two-way SMS platform for identifying children with wasting: the Mama Aweza randomised controlled trial in Kenya (University of Washington, Kenya Centre for Clinical Research)
  3. Family MUAC Pilot Study: The Strengthen Productive Safety Net Programme Institutions and Resilience (SPIR II) project empowers caregivers for the early detection and treatment of acute malnutrition in the Oromia and Amhara regions of rural Ethiopia (SPIR II is funded by the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Affairs and implemented by a consortium headed by World Vision, together with CARE, IFPRI, and ORDA).
