The Global Nutrition Cluster Technical Alliance (GNC Technical Alliance or Alliance), hosted by Action Against Hunger Canada, is a technical assistance platform that responds to technical requests, by leveraging and building on existing nutrition resources, capacities, initiatives, and coordination structures. The Alliance supports practitioners by delivering the following services:
1. Access to high-quality information, capacity strengthening resources, guidance and learning that has been curated by global nutrition specialists and agencies.
2. Where guidance is limited, timely access to interim consensus driven guidance for emerging technical issues in humanitarian nutrition, including guidance on program adaptation.
3. Access to experienced nutrition technical specialists to answer questions, or to provide more in-depth support (remote or in-country).
The Moderate Wasting Initiative within the GNC Technical Alliance aims to address the challenges that nutrition stakeholders have in accessing and utilizing feasible, effective, and innovative solutions to respond to moderate wasting in children under five years old at scale. It will seek to support the development of programmatic solutions for managing moderate wasting at scale through a range of contextualized options, including the current standard of traditional SFP with the provision of specialized nutritious foods for those that require them. There are approximately 50 million wasted children globally, and around 66% or 33 million are moderately wasted. Yet, services for these children fall woefully short of need with only around 16.6% of moderately malnourished children accessing treatment services. Further complicating the matter is that there is currently no consistent global guidance on the management of moderate wasting.
The goal of the MWI is to find feasible, replicable processes and solutions to bring moderate wasting management to scale through testing approaches to support practitioners to design contextually appropriate programs. This is meant to be achieved by creating space for government and key stakeholders to discuss trends, coverage, and gaps in the management of moderate wasting management, as well as identify options for filling those gaps. The aim is to co-create and test an approach and tools to support practitioners through a process to design contextually appropriate solutions to scale up the management of moderate wasting in 2 or 3 contexts.
OBJECTIVE
Action Against Hunger Canada is looking for one to three contractors (individuals or entities) that will be responsible to make in-person contact with key stakeholders who are involved in wasting management and nutrition-related multisectoral programming in targeted countries.
