W3 Professorship in Global Food Security (Endowed Professorship)
The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental
Management of Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen, Germany invites applications for a temporary W3 Professorship in Global Food Security (Endowed Professorship)
as of now.
Reference is made to § 67 Para. 5 and 6 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to
conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is
expected.
The endowed professorship is funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The appointment will initially be a temporary civil servant
appointment for a period of five years, provided that the requirements under civil service
law are met. The professorship can be later transformed into a permanent professorship,
depending on positive evaluation and financial aspects.
Duties:
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching within the faculty’s BSc and MSc study programs in German and English language, some of which are also attended by students from other faculties or other study programs. Active participation in the further development of study programs is desired. Interdisciplinary work within the faculty and the research departments of the university is expected, along with international networking and a willingness to strengthen the international profile of the faculty. The focus of research should be on measures for global food security within the globalization process. The willingness to contribute to the establishment of the new Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (ZNE) at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) is expected. Gender aspects should be taken into account in both research and teaching.
Requirements:
Several years of experience in research and teaching in the field of human nutrition with a specific focus on international nutrition are required. Applied research with a focus on
transfer activities is highly welcome. A university degree, an outstanding doctorate, as well as additional scientific achievements (proven e.g. by a habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements) together with pedagogical competence are a prerequisite. Success in independent acquisition and management of external funding is another prerequisite. Professional English skills are essential; further language skills are an asset.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment
under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
