The GNC Technical Alliance

The Global Nutrition Cluster Technical Alliance (GNC Technical Alliance or Alliance) is an initiative for the mutual benefit of the nutrition community, and affected populations, to improve the quality of nutrition in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. The GNC Technical Alliance Partners are made up of the GNC partners and other individuals, organizations, initiatives, and academia at global, regional and national levels that hold nutrition technical expertise across the humanitarian and development spheres.

The Alliance’s Technical Support Team (TST) provides on-demand technical support for nutrition in emergencies both remotely and in-country.

UNICEF Bolivia have requested the support of the TST to develop and implement nutritional screening activities for Venezuelan migrants, in order to improve understanding of the nutrition status of this population.

Objective

To improve the availability of quality and timely nutrition data among Venezuelan migrants.

Service description

A detailed ToR is under development.

The support will focus on the planning and implementation of nutritional screening of children under five crossing from Venezuela into Bolivia and will likely include the following activities:

An initial review of existing screening methodologies and national nutrition protocols

Development and finalization of a screening protocol

Development of a training plan to strengthen and harmonize nutrition screening activities

Development of materials and delivery of training

Unknown at the moment, but likely 4-8 weeks of work.

Required profile

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required:  

Master’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.

At least 5 years of work or relevant experience in nutrition and public health in emergencies.

Demonstrated experience in designing and leading nutrition assessments.

Demonstrated experience in capacity strengthening, including conducting learning needs assessment, capacity assessment and capacity strengthening strategies.

Desired

Experience in the development of innovative training tools.

Substantial experience in the context

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES

Required:  

Demonstrated understanding and commitment to humanitarian principles.

Strong skills in coordination and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including nutrition clusters, partners and the Ministry of Health.

Highly developed writing skills – both at a programmatic level (assessment reports, proposals) and a policy level (policy papers, guidance notes).

Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) at a level appropriate for high- level external representation presentations).  

Flexibility in ways of working.

Ability to analyze diverse information and develop recommendations for an appropriate response to emergencies.

Excellent knowledge of SMART, rapid nutrition assessments methodologies and statistical software.

Ability to work in Spanish to a high standard.

Candidates with previous work experience in the country, or familiarity with the context, will be given preference.

DUTY STATION/LOCATION:

La Paz, Bolivia

SUPERVISORS

The consultant will be supervised by both the TST Coordination Unit (based at AAH Canada) and the in-country requester (UNICEF Bolivia).

Contract modality

Delivery based contract for approximately 4-8 weeks work.
