The MAMI maternal mental health assessment uses the Patient Health Questionnaire -9 (PHQ-9), which is designed to screen for depression. Is there a reason why anxiety is not included in the MAMI maternal mental health screening? In prenatal and postnatal care in the EU, it is common to include anxiety in screening as well.

Thanks in advance for the information.

Kind regards,

Elisa

Dear Elisa,

We only included questions on depression in the maternal mental health screening and assessment due to the need to keep the questionnaires a manageable length for the health worker. We expect the materials to be adapted to each context. So if it would be appropriate to screen for depression and/or anxiety in your context, the appropriate questions can be added in.

Many thanks
