NUTRITION ADVISOR ROVING TEAM
Job Location: Dublin or Nairobi with frequent travel overseas

General Objectives of the Position:
Be part of a team of nutritionists that provide GOAL with a technical resource to support nutrition strategy and approaches to improve program quality, efficiency and impact.
Be part of a team to provide direction and support management on the nutrition aspects of GOAL’s emergency and recovery programs to ensure interventions effectively address nutrition needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Working with at least one other Senior nutrition advisor:
• Monitor FEWS NET, VAM reports and other early warning systems.
• Participate in, or review reports on, emergency assessments to advise on whether GOAL’s response should include nutrition.
• In coordination with desk officer, health and HIV/AIDS advisors maintain an overview of global emergency programming and advise on nutrition inclusions where appropriate to encourage effective integrated programming.
• Participate in setting up of emergency nutrition programmes as required and provide continued support until replacement expatriate or national nutritionists can be recruited.
• Provide technical assistance on nutrition issues to Country Programs ensuring continuity and consistency of support throughout the project cycle. Technical assistance activities will include review of surveys, proposals and reports, input into strategic planning, and strengthening of program design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
• Regular field visits to review and report on nutrition program progress specifically in relation to their efficiency and effectiveness and determine any future program recommendations.
• Provide support to HO desk officers in developing and managing relevant projects, building the capacity and experience of desk officers in nutrition work.
• Stay abreast of current good practice and ensure this informs GOAL’s own thinking and programming.
• Recommend guidance documents and program tools on policy and program issues related to nutrition.
• Undertake project evaluations – identifying achievements and lessons learned from the projects and disseminate for use in future programming.
• Support the recruitment, training and briefing of nutrition technical staff.
• Represent GOAL in external sectoral networks – facilitate the exchange of technical information and identify opportunities for cooperative work and joint ventures with other agencies.
• Support GOAL management in maintaining effective collaboration with donors (USAID, EU, DFID, DCI and WFP) and specifically build relationships with nutrition focal points within donor organisations. This includes assisting in proposal development.
Requirements:
• B.Sc./M.Sc. or equivalent in Nutrition or related degree.
• Ideally, minimum 2 (two) years practical field experience in nutrition programmes, including some experience of humanitarian assistance.
• Experience organising and managing nutrition assessments.
• Understanding of development and relief issues.
• Experience and skills in staff training and management.
• Assessment, analytical and planning skills.
• Experience in proposal and report writing
• Appreciation of the aims and objectives of GOAL.
