Action Against Hunger USA is excited to share its new resource: “State of the Evidence 2021: Modifications Aiming to Optimize Acute Malnutrition Management in Children under Five."

This document offers a high-level summary of existing evidence to date on six innovative modifications (“simplified approaches”) to standard community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) protocols: Family MUAC; reduced frequency of follow-up visits; modified admissions and discharge criteria; combined treatment/protocol for SAM and MAM; modified dosage of therapeutic foods; and CHW-led acute malnutrition treatment. Each summary objectively presents findings related to effectiveness, operational considerations, costs and cost-effectiveness, successes and challenges, and areas for future research and learning.

The goal of this resource is to encourage and guide evidence-based decision making on programming, policy, and innovation related to simplified approaches for practitioners and policymakers at local, national, and global levels.
