Hello

I see in studies and even on the WHO website that the age group of adolescents included is between 10 and 17 years old. However, WHO defines adolescence as the period from 10 to 19 years of age. Could you enlighten me on this point? Thank you

In response to your question: I don't think there's a universal definition or consensus on this, concepts are used interchangeably. The WHO defines adolescence as 10-19 years old, while there are other overlapping definitions (e.g. from Unicef or UN) such as youth or young people that include people aged up to 30 years or define children as those aged 0-18 years (which includes adolescents).

I highly recommend reading the article by Sawyer et al (2018) which discusses this question and its implications: See:  https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanchi/article/PIIS2352-4642(18)30022-1/fulltext

Hope this helps!
