Job Description

The Nutrition Specialist will spend at least 80% of their time supporting the advancement of the nutrition vision by developing global tools, guidelines and resources, managing internal strategic initiatives, supporting quality measurement and evaluation, synthesizing data and lessons learned. If gaps exist with Technical Advisors, the remaining 20% of their time may be spent on country support. The Nutrition Specialist specific responsibilities include:

Technical (80%):

Develop, test, and roll-out global tools, resources, training and curriculum to improve program quality

Support development of evidence-based guidance on integrated nutrition programs

 Collaborate on strategic initiatives in nutrition, and participate in joint initiatives with other IRC technical units, (e.g. Good & Great standards, measurement, cash, early childhood development)

 Dedicated to ensure country programs conduct quality nutrition assessments and evaluations by providing technical guidance, capacity building, data analysis, report writing and on the ground support when possible

Improve quality of monitoring of all global nutrition programs by rolling out the measurement packages, synthesizing nutrition program data, capacity building and leading on the Good & Great measurement standards

Develop guidance to ensure nutrition programs uphold IRC’s standards of gender equality

Country Support (20%):

Provide technical support to country programs according to the TA model:

Provide responsive and collaborative nutrition technical support to program staff in business development and program design by incorporating the best available evidence and practices in nutrition

Build technical capacity of country program staff through technical training, coaching, and cross-context learning to ensure ongoing program quality and innovation

Support project delivery by working with country program colleagues to analyze data and share program-specific tools/resources/curricula

Conduct technical support visits

Other:

 Represent the nutrition team in academic fora, inter-agency working groups, and various global/regional fora

Qualifications

Education: University degree in related field plus Master’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition or Global Nutrition is required.

Skills: Ability to work effectively on a diverse team and across diverse contexts, technical acumen, take initiative and produce results, ability to accept feedback and integrate it, strong communication skills and ability to effectively work in a French speaking environment.

Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of international field experience in nutrition in humanitarian or post-conflict settings. Experience working in the community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) and infant and young child feeding (IYCF) programs is required. The Nutrition Specialist will design nutrition assessments, review surveys (SMART, SQUEAC, IYCF), develop tools, M&E systems, work with data and indicators and develop technical guidelines and trainings. Competency in SMART, SQUEAC and IYCF nutrition methodologies is required.

Working Environment: Up to 30% travel may be required. The position is based in New York.
