DOES YOU AGENCY HAVE GUIDANCE ON HOW TO IMPLEMENT A MOTHER BABY AREA? HAVE YOU WRITTEN AN ARTICLE ON YOUR EXPERIENCES OF RUNNING AN IYCF CORNER? WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

ENN (as the GTAM’s KM partner) are developing a summary brief on Mother Baby Areas/ Baby Friendly Spaces and IYCF Corners in collaboration with the IFE-Core Group (as the GTWG on IYCF-E for GTAM). We would like to ask for your help in mapping relevant resources.

A bit of background as to why this is being done: last year a number of technical needs assessment activities were carried out to identify technical gaps in NiE for the GTAM to address as a matter of priority. The findings of this process are summarized in the GTAM Baseline Technical Needs Assessment Report. One of the needs identified under IYCF-E was to “review current guidance on IYCF Corners and MBAs to streamline and widely disseminate.” Following a review of gaps under IYCF-E by the IFE-CG Steering Committee, it was recommended that a review should be undertaken and a technical summary brief developed which pulls together existing information and identifies any gaps.

As a first step, we would like to please ask for your help in mapping all relevant resources pertaining to Mother Baby Areas / Baby Friendly Spaces and IYCF Corners.

In particular, we are looking for global, agency and country level guidelines/ guidance manuals, training materials, articles documenting implementation experiences and research papers - or any other materials that you think might be helpful in guiding practitioners on how to design, plan for, implement and monitor these spaces.

With thanks

Hi Isabelle,

How should we get in touch with you? As I'm sure you know, ACF has a global guide on Baby Friendly Spaces. In Lebanon, ACF is delivering an age-targeted curriclum on IYCF-child development-Pschosocial support to groups of Syrian refugee mothers over 4-5 months (same women with children of the same age coming back every two weeks). We can share the curriculum by end of this year, but I'm not sure that is what you are looking for. We have also supported health facilities to develop breastfeeding corners and what might be of more interest is the Breast/baby-friendly assessment tool for health facilities. It is a scored checklist that provides the foundation for developing an action plan to make a health facility more breastfeeding-friendly. We have only piloted it during the last few months, but could share a draft with you if of interest.

Dear Kate,

Many thanks for your reply - both those initiatives sound really interesting. It would be great to receive any (near-to-be) finalised resources which we could make practitioners aware of via the technical brief.

You can reach me at: gtam@ennonline.net

Thank you!

Isabelle
