Role and Responsibilities To effectively manage the education and behaviour change part of the Mennonite Central Committee funded nutrition project in Badakhshan. To ensure that beneficiary participation is enhanced in all phases of the project. Manage and train National staff working on the project. Project Overview To improve the nutritional status of vulnerable populations affected by recent natural disasters in Raghistan district (Badakhshan) through: Increased household level awareness and practice of health and nutrition promoting behaviours; Improved access to effective nutritional treatment for acutely malnourished children under 5 and vulnerable pregnant / lactating women in targeted communities of Raghistan East District; Build local Ministry of Public Health and community capacity to prevent and respond to acute malnutrition. Workplace: Badakhshan province Starting Date: February 2011 Contract Details: 1 year, preferably 2, 100% Key activity areas Plan, schedule and supervise project activities. Ensure effective integration of gender and other core mainstreaming issues into the project. Technical / Management .Develop the training materials further and set up a structure for training at household level. .Train and supervise the Medair training team. .Set up and incorporate the screening and referral system at household level. .Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation assessments against project objectives. .Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities to the Nutrition Project Manager (PMN). .Support the Nutrition Project Manager in nutritional assessments / surveys as required. Logistics and Finance .To coordinate with the logistics department and ensure all project related equipment is available on site in a timely fashion. .To coordinate with the finance department to ensure accurate accounting of project finances as well as effective cash-flow. Staff Management .Oversee all staff within direct line management: Including recruitment, appraisal, management, general well-being, job descriptions, work schedules, discipline etc. in coordination with the Nutrition Project Manager. .Provide training to all National staff under direct line management, as necessary (within budget and operational constraints) so as to ensure ownership and full local responsibility of all project activities. .To reflect the vision and values of Medair when interacting with team members and beneficiaries. Communications and Public Relations .Work with the Field Communications Officer to supply necessary materials and information for communications and marketing. Security Management .To be responsible for the safety and security of Medair assets and personnel on site of operations. .To adhere to the security guidelines employed by Medair on site. Qualifications . BSc/MSc or equivalent in Nutrition, Nursing or related degree desirable Experience / Competencies . Training and experience in Nutrition and community based training . 2 year minimum experience post qualification in project management position, preferably 1 year experience in Nutrition education related projects . Clear communicator . Team Player . Aptitude for community mobilization and capacity-building . Capacity to give spiritual support . Capacity to work under pressure, in an insecure environment and to tight deadlines . Understand the concepts of behaviour change and community based training Medair standard working requirements for the field . Committed Christians and committed to Medair values . At least one year of professional experience in a relevant field (more experience preferred) . Minimum 3 months inter-cultural overseas experience . Willing to commit to Medair for a minimum of one year . Single, or married (without dependent children) . Aged 25 - 55 generally preferred . Strong working knowledge of English (oral and written) . Competent with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook . Able to live and work with a multicultural team under difficult conditions . Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty, and physically fit .
