Post Title: Roving Nutritionist for the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM)
Grade: P2
Contract Type: International Consultant (CST)
Duty Station: Juba, South Sudan
Contract duration: 10 months

Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the International Nutrition Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring quality implementation of the nutrition interventions within the rapid response mechanism teams of WFP (80% field based) and provide backstopping to the nutrition section (20%). He/she will be required to perform the following duties:
1. Lead nutrition interventions in the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) missions (80%)
a. Participate and implement the RRM nutrition intervention package in the WFP rapid response mechanism (RRM) missions as the lead nutrition expert:
o Ensure appropriate implementation of blanket supplementary feeding programme (BSFP) for children 6- 59 months in the RRM;
o Ensure quality nutrition screenings are conducted of children under five and pregnant and lactating women during the RRM
o Ensure appropriate implementation of targeted supplementary feeding programme (TSFP) for children 6- 59 months and PLWs in the RRM;
o Provide IYCF-E messaging to women and caretakers
• Work with RRM team leader to determine the best package of nutrition interventions are carried on each mission.
• In areas with nutrition partners, monitor TSFP activities and provide on-the job training as necessary.
• Follow up with the nutrition partner on recommendations
• Conduct beneficiary interviews during RRMs for monitoring and use as a human interest story
• Train WFP rapid response mechanism (RRM) team members & partners on key nutrition elements of the response;
• Ensure operational linkages with other UN Agency and NGO partners involved in integrated RRM missions;
• Check and adapt when necessary the compatibility of GFD tools with the nutrition activity;
• Complete post-mission reporting and update of the RRM nutrition database;
• Support the RRM nutrition coordinator in documenting lessons learnt on implementation of the RRM and disseminate the reports;
• Take opportunity of RRM missions to supervise TSFP sites and provide capacity building to partners in remote areas;
• Provide technical nutrition guidance in strengthening the WFP nutrition component of the RRMs;
• Participate in RRM team meetings.

2. Provide backstopping to the Nutrition section (20%)
• Assist in the Field Level Agreement (FLA) process by reviewing the technical project proposals of nutrition partners and participating in Project Review Committee (PRC) as required;
• Provide technical support to Sub –offices through regular field visits;
• Assist the Nutrition team in developing training and communication materials on nutrition related topics and perform cascaded trainings for MoH/GoSS, WFP and partners staff on the topics;
• Participate in regular and ad hoc nutrition assessments, surveys and studies as required;
• Participate in nutrition related coordination forums, working groups, technical meetings and training activities;
• Assist to monitor status of nutrition NFIs (cards, IEC materials, etc.) under procurement, delivery to Juba and shipping to WFP sub-offices (SOs) at state level and monitor the stock status (of replenish-able items in liaison with the SO nutrition focal points;
• Support the section in the regular review of distribution plans and highlight concerns with nutrition commodity supply to sub-office and logistics teams;
• Work closely with other members of the section in order to complement each other and learn from one another;
• Perform other related duties, as required.
Qualifications and experience
• Advanced University degree or University degree with experience and training/courses in one or more of the following disciplines: Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics
• At least 3 years post graduate, progressively responsible, job related experience in Public Nutrition, including emergency nutrition.
• Willing and able to work in deep field locations.
• Proficiency in Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) and nutrition related statistical analysis packages such as ENA for SMART and EPINut.
• Ability work (speak and write) in English (proficiency/level C) required.
• Intermediate knowledge (intermediate/level B) of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) (preferred).
