I am interested in write up on "an effective general food distribution system in a refugee setting"
What are the key things an NGO should put into consideration in order to provide an effective and efficient services in delivering General food distribution. Is there a guideline that has provisions for this? What is the best practice? Where what are the likely loop holes, or setbacks?

1: good storage
2: emergency site must available
3: water sources is necessary
4: shelter for every individual

8 years agoAside from those enumerated by the rest, consider context of the population.
Examples:
1. No milk substitutes as this may go against milk policies and breastfeeding initiatives - essential during emergencies.
2. Don't give cheese if people do not eat cheese. They might use them as soap (IP communities).
3. Consider nutritional value of the food that will be distributed.
4. Ensure NCD diet for older people or they may contribute to the longer term mortality and morbidity of the refugee population.

Among other objectives, this will help in understanding the background of the situation, the preferred staple foods, and important details of the mechanism for distribution including frequency of distribution, staff availability for distribution, involvement of the recipients in managing and implementation of the GFD.
