TITLE: Emergency Nutrition Advisor

SUMMARY
The Advisor will serve as a critical member of the Emergency Health and Nutrition (EHN) team at Save the Children, US in supporting EHN strategy and operational plans. To this end, the Emergency Nutrition Advisor will serve as a first responder including leading and/or supporting the nutrition sector in emergencies globally. The Advisor will provide program quality oversight throughout the program cycle, provide technical leadership in program learning and innovation, mobilize resources, and support global and country level advocacy efforts. The Advisor will work closely with Save the Children colleagues from both technical and emergency response departments. The Advisor will coordinate and collaborate with Save the Children International’s emergency structures as well as represent the agency in select global emergency nutrition fora. The Advisor will have a geographic focus (50%) on countries in the West and Central Africa region. The primary thematic sub-focus will be on the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition.
REQUIREMENTS
• Masters’ degree or higher in public health nutrition or related field
• Considerable field experience in humanitarian or relief work in developing countries (5 years), with extensive work in emergency situations (including quick onset emergency).
• Experience in developing timely and effective emergency nutrition responses inclusive of a variety of emergency nutrition programming areas required (ie - CMAM and IYCF-E required).
• Fluency in written and spoken English and French
• Proven ability to develop and apply monitoring and evaluation plans to determine program results and monitor impact, including conducting and analyzing nutrition surveys and rapid assessments required.
• Excellent writing, editing, training experience essential in the areas of emergency nutrition; understanding of food security and health concepts and multi-sectoral programming for nutrition
• Must have strong capacity building skills - explains and demonstrates, provides feedback and reinforcement, aligns performance for success, builds trust, and coaches
• Strong leadership skills and must be a self starter, independent worker, and a team player at headquarters and in the field.
• Willingness to travel 30%-35% of the time.
