Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work: International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance. This is the largest Ebola outbreak in history and the first in West Africa. Throughout the outbreak in West Africa, WHO, CDC, INGOs and other local and international organizations have responded. On August 8, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the current Ebola outbreak is a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). International Medical Corps has established Ebola Treatment Units (ETU) in Liberia. In addition, IMC has established a training collaborative to build core competencies for all staff deployed to Ebola ETUs. The training programs include theory, simulation and onsite supervised clinical practice. Mobile Support Teams will be established to support in-service training and quality assurance throughout various ETUs and healthcare facilities. As the Ebola response transitions away from an ETU-focus, IMC has established Screening and Referral Units (SRUs) at the health facilities in Bong and Montserrado Counties, with more planned. The SRUs screen all patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital or outpatient department in order to identify and refer to the ETU anyone with Ebola-suspect symptoms. Additionally the SRU program provides triage/isolation infrastructure (from temporary to semi-permanent to permanent facilities) and rehabs or inputs new WASH infrastructure necessary for safe functioning of the triage and isolation unit and maintenance of Infection Prevention and Control standards.
