Job Purpose: To enable Concern Somalia to respond effectively to nutritional needs, both emergency and developmental. 1. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Programme Support the development and implementation of Concern's nutritional program Monitor, and evaluate activities on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis Further develop or reorient the nutrition programme on an as needed basis, providing technical guidance, training, and materials. Engage in analysis of the nutritional situation and participate in general strategic planning & management discussions. Ensure Concern Somalia management are fully updated on the unfolding nutritional situation and are provided with the key findings from nutrition assessments, reports, external updates, etc. Mainstream nutrition into other Concern Somalia programme sectors to ensure there is cross-sectoral understanding of what influences malnutrition Contribute to ongoing quality improvement of Concern Somalia's programmes - supporting the management team to strengthen accountability, participation, capacity building, equality, mainstreaming of HIV&AIDS, equality and other cross cutting issues, and working with partners. Contribute to Concern's internal learning by sharing programme information and learning with Dublin colleagues Representation Participate in meetings of the Nutrition Cluster and other technical meetings on nutrition and food security (at Nairobi level and field level as appropriate). Contribute to policy working groups on the development of guidelines, tools, materials for wider use in Somalia. Share information and learning from experiences in Somalia with relevant partner organisations and other key networks. Help to strengthen collaboration and coordination between Concern and other organisations in the area of nutrition and food security, ensuring learning from best practice examples takes place. Technical Support As requested, and depending on work priorities agreed with Concern Somalia management, work with other NGOs in Somalia to improve their technical capacity in the area of nutrition. This may include providing orientations and facilitating training on CMAM and assisting with CMAM assessments and evaluations. 2. Work Targets Set for This Post Over The Contract Period Using the internal review as a foundation, guide the nutrition program into the next phase based on needs analysis, the internal review recommendations and incorporation of best practices. Create a process to mainstream nutrition into the other Concern program sectors Maintain Concern's strong presence in national level coordination bodies and working groups. It should be noted that the specific work targets will be defined at the start of the contract between the post holder and Concern Somalia management, depending on the context in Somalia and the nutrition situation. The post holder will need to be very flexible and able to operate in and react to a dynamic and rapidly changing environment. 3. Reporting To: Country Director based in Mogadishu 4. .Responsible For (Staff): 5 staff (1 National Nutritionist, 3 District Nurses, 1 Public Health Nurse) 5. Liaises With: Other Concern Somalia staff, relevant Dublin headquarters staff (in particular relevant technical advisors, overseas desk officer); Partner Organisations; Donors, Somali Support Secretariat, UNOCHA on cluster activities FSNAU and Somalia support staff in Nairobi office. 7. Exact Job Location: Nairobi with frequent travel to Somalia (when possible). 8. Education & Qualifications Required Essential: MSc in public health, nutrition, or nursing with experience of nutrition in an emergency context. Training knowledge and practical experience of application. Desirable: Knowledge of CMAM and best practice in this field as well as programmes addressing prevention of acute malnutrition. Experience required Essential: At least 3 years experience in nutrition programming. Knowledge & experience of technical nutrition aspects - assessments, surveillance, surveys, etc. At least 2 years experience working in an insecure environment. Excellent report and proposal writing skills. Excellent negotiation and networking skills. Proven ability to mentor, support and train staff and partners. Good experience of facilitating workshops. Fluency in English Desirable: Experience in remote management Good experience in food security programming. Previous experience working with Concern.
