Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work: International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility for rapid response to emergencies. International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance. PROGRAM BACKGROUND: Two earthquakes impacted Nepal within a little over a two week period, killing more than 8,600 people and injuring more than 16,800 people. Some 8 million people were affected, including 2.8 million who are now displaced from their homes. International Medical Corps efforts currently include operating mobile medical units; providing hygiene education and supplies and constructing temporary latrines and hand washing stations to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases; providing psychological first aid training to medical first responders and teachers; and providing expert medical personnel, supplies and equipment to help manage the influx of patients in existing health facilities, including Patan Hospital in Kathmandu. For Nutrition and Food Security and livelihoods response, International Medical Corps’ main objectives are to mitigate the impact of the earthquake on the nutritional status of vulnerable populations (children aged 0-59 months, PLWs, older populations) in the earthquake-affected districts and to provide assistance to re-build food security among earthquake-affected communities. International Medical Corps proposes to have a nutrition coordinator on the ground in Nepal to assess nutrition needs and gaps in response, formulate appropriate immediate and long term solutions, develop and implement technically sound and need based programs, and represent International Medical Corps at the relevant Nutrition cluster meetings with governments, UN agencies and NGO meetings, as well as build the capacity of local NGO partners and monitor their work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation. • Plan and implement on the job training for International Medical Corps’ local NGO partners on IMAM, IYCF, etc • Lead the development of proposals to be submitted by International Medical Corps to ensure that proposed activities and programs align with best practice in the Nutrition sector. • Assess the needs and opportunities for long term nutrition development programing. • Forge partnerships with INGOs and LNGOs who have been working in Nepal for many years in order to preposition for new multi-year development bids. • If needed, establish and manage the implementation of nutrition program (CMAM, IYCF, community mobilization nutrition education, etc) including conducting training, supervision and coordination and development of M&E system and BCC materials. • Actively coordinate with International Medical Corps WASH, Health, FSL, and mental health programs to ensure an integrated approach to meeting needs of affected populations. • Actively represent International Medical Corps in nutrition sector technical discussions, and coordination meetings including cluster coordination • Serve as an International Medical Corps nutrition sector resource person, and display technical and organizational leadership in sectoral activity commensurate with the role as a primary resource person for nutrition in International Medical Corps program • Coordinate International Medical Corps’ nutrition response and recovery activities across a wide range of actors within International Medical Corps, donors, host governments, UN and NGO partners to ensure consistency of programming. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: • BS with 6-8 years of international field experience or Master’s degree with 4-6 years of field experience in nutrition, public health nutrition or related field, including international experience in emergency response and recovery following disasters • Previous experience in Asia a plus EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT • Current knowledge of regional nutrition, health, and food security issues • Experience in multisectoral assessment and program design, implementation and monitoring • Skills in technical proposal writing, designing and implementing nutrition programs. • Must have excellent English written and oral communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments within International Medical Corps, donors, UN agencies, Ministries, (international) non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. • Ability to exhibit tact, diplomacy, and resourcefulness in dealing with high level officials from donor agencies, international organizations, and other foreign and domestic government officials and partners. • Ability to strictly follow rules and regulations especially for security • Flexibility, initiative, discretion, ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Willingness to travel to remote areas in Nepal to support the set-up of the nutrition programs and conduct monitoring visits.
