15-750: Nutrition Associate BACKGROUND International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs, seeks candidates for the position of Nutrition Associate in Chad. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance. International Medical Corps has been present in Chad since 2004 and currently operates in four regions: Lake, Salamat, Ouaddai, and Wadi Fira - providing assistance and health care to local populations and refugees. Malnutrition has been an endemic problem in the country for decades, where global acute malnutrition (GAM) rates are close to or regularly exceed the emergency threshold (15%), set by the WHO. The main approach adopted to fight against malnutrition is the support of a community- based acute malnutrition (CMAM). This method has proven very effective in significantly reducing the mortality of children under five years old. However, we could get even more remarkable results by improving the quality of programs, data management and rapid provision of information and treatment advice. In this regard, a telehealth system on mobile devices (mhealth) for the treatment of acute malnutrition proves the ideal solution to increase the performance of CMAM programs. Therefore, International Medical Corps, in partnership with World Vision, will adopt an mhealth system in the Ouaddai region. Furthermore, International Medical Corps, in partnership with ACF, is conducting a holistic and participatory Nutrition Causal Analysis (NCA) to analyze the multi-causality of under-nutrition, as a starting point for improving the relevance and effectiveness of multi-sectorial nutrition programming in a given context.
