Role and Responsibilities Assist in the direct implementation of nutrition interventions which may include screening, treatment of severe acute malnutrition, moderate acute malnutrition, or provision of blanket supplementary feeding. Provide supervision and training to local staff to allow them to implement the programmes. Be in charge of writing reports and keeping good data records, assist with ensuring adequate stocks, providing training to local staff as needed, and monitoring the overall health and nutrition situation and observing for potential outbreaks. Workplace Field based within one of the 10 states of South Sudan Starting Date September 2015 Initial Contract Details Full time, minimum 24 months Key Activity Areas Health and Nutrition Management • Responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and support of the assigned Health / Nutrition field interventions in line with the activity plan and time frame of the relevant project proposal and any applicable national and international guidelines and standards. • Conduct regular supervision in clinics and other health and nutrition facilities to support staff with on the job training and ensure quality of service delivery. • Provide training for local staff in line with the appropriate international and South Sudan guidelines. • Carry out assessments in targeted locations with newly identified emergency needs. • Ensure regular monitoring and evaluation of intervention implementation. • Oversee the process of data collection, collation and dissemination to meet the requirements and deadlines set by Medair and / or external partners. • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities for internal and external reports. Staff Management • Assist the Project Manager to manage and oversee the assigned Health and Nutrition team including recruitment, day-to-day management, development and training, appraisals, etc. The Health team includes certified health staff, other health staff and support staff. • Assist to facilitate regular team meetings with the assigned Health and Nutrition teams, reviewing team and individual objectives. • Ensure the assigned Health and Nutrition team members receive relevant and appropriate supervision, coaching, mentoring and training in order to develop their personal and professional skills, knowledge and understanding. • Promote the health and security of the Health and Nutrition team. • Assist in the recruitment of local field staff within the intervention location following all HR policies of Medair and the Government of South Sudan. Financial Management • Work with the Project Manager and Nutrition Team Leader to manage finances within the field location. • Coordinate and oversee petty cash requirements of the intervention team. Communication and Coordination • Maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the assigned Health and Nutrition team. • Represent Medair at relevant local level coordination meetings involving local authorities, UN agencies and other NGOs. Logistics • Manage the correct and timely ordering of needed stocks and supplies to the field location in coordination with the Nutrition Team Leader and the Project Manager. • Manage all stocks within the field location and assist team in intervention planning and preparations. Quality Management • Implement, as far as is possible within operational constraints, relevant policies and standards relating to health and nutrition service delivery including Sphere and HAP standards, Ministry of Health and donor guidelines and other good practice. Qualifications • Higher level qualification, preferably in as a medical doctor • Degree in nutrition; education / training / experience in humanitarian work desirable Languages • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written) Experience / Competencies • 2 years post-qualification nursing / medical professional experience; strong clinical background • Experience in a health programme in a developing country • Experience working in a nutrition programme in a humanitarian context • Clinical skills within a Primary Health Care setting; exp. in Behaviour Change Communication desirable • Ability and willingness to manage project implementation • Aptitude for community mobilisation and capacity-building • Competent with statistical database such as EPI Info, SPSS or STATA desirable • Excellent organisational skills; able to prioritise clearly; able to enforce procedures • Committed to consultative and servant minded leadership; creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner • Able to cope with basic living conditions in the field and during field trips Medair Standard Working Requirements for the Field • Experienced professionals in a relevant field; Overseas intercultural experience • Committed Christians; commitment to the Medair values • Strong working knowledge of English, spoken and written • Working knowledge of French, spoken and written, for French-speaking field programmes • Single or married (with no children under 18).
