We are looking for a Nutrition Specialist in Emergencies to join our Food Assistance and Nutrition Unit. As a Nutrition Specialist in Emergencies you will be responsible for improving the quality of food and nutrition assistance programs and increase influence of Plan within the food assistance and nutrition sectors. You will bring the technical specialism into the team advising in particular on nutrition and effective related program responses that impact on children. In addition you will be responsible for:
• Providing clear and unequivocal advice based on experience of effective strategy and implementation to impact on child nutrition in emergencies
• Establish quality standards and guidance for food assistance programs that impact on children
• Develop standardized participatory monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for nutrition work.
• Coordinate the provision of high quality programmatic expertise in nutrition and nutrition programs
• Prepare procedures for engagement on WFP programs between Country Offices (COs) and National Offices (NOs)
• Support Country Offices to design new food assistance and nutrition projects
• Identify and engage with key nutrition stakeholders in Plan worldwide
• Work in coalitions toward the harmonisation of national policies related to nutrition
• Capitalize the learning and lessons learnt from program implementation in countries and dissemination.
• Plans Nutrition network meeting regularly, reporting and articulating key messages to the organisation
• Coordinate and disseminate evidence-based research on the linkage between children right and nutrition in emergency settings
• Prepare nutrition and children position papers and policy briefs.
• Lead Plan’s representation in international forums.
Role Requirements:
• Relevant Degree or equivalent in relevant field
• Knowledge of the food assistance and nutrition sector including WFP, USAID and ECHO food assistance programming
• Extensive knowledge of nutrition issues in Africa
• Knowledge of international humanitarian standards and codes of conduct
• Excellent proven nutrition security analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to network and liaise with major food assistance donors including WFP, USAID and ECHO
• Excellent project design, participatory monitoring and evaluation skills
• Previous experience of managing nutrition projects that focus on children in emergencies;
• Experience working and collaborating with diverse sets of stakeholders, such as local partners, government officials, donor representatives, and international staff.
• Proven leadership, inter-personal and cross-cultural skills, and ability to build and motivate diverse teams
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills, knowledge of a second language would be advantageous
