Job Title: Nutrition Component Manager Project Description: The Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) project is a 5-year integrated project funded by the USAID Feed the Future (FtF) Initiative and is designed to contribute to Government of Ghana (GoG) efforts to sustainably reduce poverty and improve the nutritional status of vulnerable populations. The goal of RING is improved livelihoods and nutritional status of households in Ghana. John Snow Inc. (JSI) has been asked to implement nutrition activities in Northern Ghana as a subcontractor to Global Communities (GC) on the RING project. Job Summary: JSI is in search of a Nutrition Component Manager who will be the principal technical advisor for all nutrition activities outlined in the RING work plan, as well as ensure effective linkages and integration of activities with the other RING components. Job Location: Tamale, Ghana Reporting Relationship: The Nutrition Component Manager will report to the RING Chief of Party in Tamale. Major Duties and Responsibilities: • Serve as principal technical advisor for nutrition activities and interventions in 17 districts of Northern Region. • Lead a team of technical staff in the design, implementation, and monitoring of nutrition activities outlined in the RING work plan. • In conjunction with District Assembly staff, regularly review approved nutrition activities, recommend changes as needed, and propose and develop appropriate new nutrition activities and interventions, including estimated budgets, for integration into District Assembly work plans. • Train district-level stakeholders to increase understanding of the importance of nutrition interventions. • Build capacity of district-level stakeholders to effectively prioritize, plan, implement, and monitor nutrition activities. • Ensure technical integrity of the activities and identify technical assistance options where needed. • Manage relationships with RING partners, JSI project staff, district-level government, and other key stakeholders at the district level. • Maintain an understanding of nutrition issues in Ghana, including national policy development. • Review and modify project materials and tools where needed. • Ensure effective linkages and integration of activities with the other RING components, including agriculture, livelihoods, water, sanitation, and hygiene. • Oversee monitoring of nutrition activities against indicators and document problems and best practices in collaboration with RING monitoring and evaluation staff. • In conjunction with District Assembly staff, develop annual work plans and budgets for activities in nutrition. • Supervise two Nutrition Officers and other staff as assigned. • Other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications and Skills • Master Degree in a nutrition, public health, international development, or closely related field and at least five (5) years of professional experience in implementing and managing nutrition, hygiene and public health development programs as well as development activities at the community and household level targeted towards the vulnerable populations; or a Bachelor’s degree and at least ten (10) years of similar experience. • Demonstrated technical expertise in nutrition, especially in Ghana at the national and district levels. • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and transfer of skills. • Familiarity with and commitment to addressing gender equality in nutrition and public health. • Excellent written and verbal English skills. • Strong initiative and self-motivation required, with a commitment to teamwork and effectiveness within a dynamic multi-disciplinary project. • Demonstrated ability to work with local authorities in Ghana, especially at the district level. • Demonstrated understanding of government protocols and ability to effectively manage cross-ministerial and department communications. • Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into practical guidance and tools and effectively communicate these to stakeholders at the district level. • Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 40% of time.
