Position Summary & Responsibilities:
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.

PROGRAM SUMMARY:
IMC has been operational in Cameroon since 2008 focusing on health, Nutrition, GBV and WASH service delivery. Currently, IMC runs three mobile clinics in 55 outreach sites in Djohong, Meiganga and Tibati Districts of Adamaoua region. In addition to providing direct services, IMC also provides capacity building as well as technical and material support to 23 health facilities. In August 2013, IMC will begin implementing an emergency nutrition program for vulnerable populations of Cameroon’s Far North Region in Guidiguis, Kaele, and Moulvoudaye health districts. The project has been extended into two new health districts in March and the project is on the process of its extension from 1st August 2014. The program includes integrated management of acute malnutrition; water, sanitation and hygiene promotion.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for technical guidance; training and ongoing supportive supervision to field program staff to enhance effective program implementation of an ECHO funded emergency nutrition response.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management:
• Provide technical support and supervision of nutrition activities to those staff implementing nutrition programs in Far North Region of Cameroon and ensure program objectives are successfully achieved.
• Conduct and train staff on needs assessment for project implementation including SMART surveys, causal analysis and other assessments of nutritional status of target groups according to the donor agreement.
• Assess the training needs of nutrition staff; develop a training program to meet these needs; conduct nutrition training for project nutrition staff and MOH counterparts implementing nutrition programs, focusing on all aspects of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), IYCF, behavior change communication, etc
• Ensure the establishment and strengthening of nutrition monitoring activities and train health staff (IMC and MOH) in case detection and referral mechanisms.
• Ensure all activities are conducted timely, cost and quality effective and that the implementation of nutrition programs conform to internationally accepted standards and country guidelines.
• Monitor program impact and ensure that program data is valid and relevant, and used to inform program development.
• Prepare monthly technical reports to the Country Director and provide technical input into quarterly, semiannual and annual reports according to donor requirements and IMC procedures
• Prepare annual and quarterly work plan and budget that identify key objectives, responsible staff, deliverables and potential roadblocks
• Provide Coordination and Liaise, with the Ministry of Health and other agencies (UNICEF, WHO, and WFP) to ensure appropriate provision of service and use of resources
Program Development:
• Assist Country Director in expanding country portfolio
• Pursue new sources of donor funding and maintain adequate donor funding levels to sustain identified program and support activities
• Participate in drafting and editing proposals
Human Resources
• Oversee the recruitment and selection of qualified program field staff, recommend promotions, disciplinary action and termination of staff in consultation with supervisors
• Collaborate with National Logistics Manager /CD to maintain security of staff in the field locations
• Make frequent site visits to facilities to ensure that appropriate care and training are being conducted and to offer support to field staff
• Maintain open lines of communications with all field staff
Working Relationships
• Maintain frequent communication with Country Director to ensure program activities and objectives are communicated
• Work with Technical Coordinator Finance Director, Logistics Coordinators to ensure the coordination of IMC programs
• Attend coordination meetings which are relevant to country program activities
• Represent IMC at task force meetings, assessment missions, coordination meetings, UN coordination meetings, INGO coordination meetings
• Interface with Regional MOPH, DMO and relevant agencies to ensure mutual understanding of programs and maximize resource distribution and allocation of available funds
Representation
• Serve as a liaison with UNICEF on matters related to the program to ensure programmatic accountability to donors
• Participate in monthly MOH/UNICEF Nutrition Coordination meetings and communicate relevant information to the CD, SMT and field staff
• Work with key donor staff to develop and maintain optimum programmatic relationship
• Ensure maximum visibility of the agency amongst the NGO community
• Facilitate the production of technical reports and ensure the timeliness and accuracy of information provided, as well ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of IMC’s mandate, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to other actors
Security
• Responsible for ensuring that Incident Report Forms are completed and submitted to HQ Security in a timely manner (within 12 hours)
• Ensure application and compliance of security protocols and policies
• In cooperation with the Security Coordinator, monitor the security situation and inform the Country Director through weekly security reports
• Collaborate with local agencies to aid with security management.
Skills & Requirements:
• BS in Nutrition required with 8-10 years of field experience or Master’s Degree required in Nutrition or other relevant field, 6-8 years of international experience in emergency nutrition response.
• An up-to date understanding of nutrition, risk reduction, emergency response, and sustainable development concepts.
• Knowledge in designing and implementing appropriate and effective holistic nutrition programs including ensuring that beneficiaries have access to health care, WASH, and FS programming.
• Nutrition training and field experience in Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition
• Skilled in management, supervision and organization
• Very good program report writing skills as well as analytical capacities
• Excellent representation and coordination skills with MOH, UNICEF, Nutrition Cluster Coordination and other stakeholder
• Strong experience in organizing and conducting training and capacity building
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Email, EXCEL)
• Previous working experience in emergency set-up with at least five year experience in an international organization as Nutrition program manager
• Energetic, independent and motivated to work in resource limited and harsh environment
• Not easily disheartened by frustration and delays
• Strong teamwork skills in a multi-cultural setting
• Working knowledge of English and French is a must.
