Does anyone have any experiences of the advantages of using plumpydoz for the treatment of moderate acute malnutrition among children under 5 in comparison with unimix or locally produced dry supplementary foods?
In addtion, a comparative test of plumpy doz vs enhanced CSB (CSB, DSM, sugar and oil) is being done in two IDP camps near Nyala (Darfur). ICRC has also done a plumpy doz test in Gerieda camp (S Darfur). Data currently being analysed. Hopefully all the tests can be put together from Sudan, and reviewed alongside other data as it becomes available.

Operational research project for measuring the efficiency of Supplementary Plumpy®/RUSF over the use of the conventional Famix/CSB-Oil for management of MAM in emergencies was implemented by ACF and UN-WFP in Ethiopia. You should be able to find the publication of the results by now, hope it helps.

RUSF ( ready to Use Supplementary food) are of two types. 1) for prevention of moderate acute malnutrition thruogh blanket feeding. UN-WFP is is using plumpy doz for prevention. 2) for treatment of moderate acute malnutrition thruogh target feeding. UN-WFP is is using Supplementary plumpy for treatment. Both Plumpy doz and Supplementary plumpy are RUSF and ofcourse are more appropriate as compared to other blended foods ( FBF, CSB, UNIMIX etc) as blended foods needs preparation befor consumption while RUSF does not require any preparation.
