The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an independent humanitarian organization whose mandate is to provide protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and internal disturbances, has vacancies for Nutritionists.
Main Objective
Nutritionists are responsible for providing nutrition inputs to assess the nutritional situation and to implement and supervise nutrition and other programmes in the field. This is done in compliance with ICRC's and national protocols/guidelines and in collaboration with local partners.
Responsibilities
The panel of activities includes:
Overall Situation Analysis ?
To analyze the livelihoods, the nutritional situation and the causes of malnutrition of populations of ICRC concern while putting this in perspective to the country/region ?
To provide elements/practical recommendations to orient the Assistance/ICRC programme's policy and strategy
Assessments ?
To design and implement assessments incorporating nutrition elements, nutrition surveys, monitoring and surveillance.
Nutrition Interventions ?
To be responsible for nutrition specific programmes by facilitating, designing and implementing strategies to prevent and treat acute malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies (general food distributions, blanket food distributions, supplementary and therapeutic feeding programmes in PHC, hospitals, detention places, open environments, etc.) ?
To include nutrition considerations in economic security programmes including cash transfers, micro economic initiatives, agro and livestock interventions ?
To evaluate the impact of nutrition/economic security interventions, and changes in population environment/livelihoods, and to adapt the programmes accordingly
Emergency preparedness and response ?
To monitor the nutrition situation, alert when required and participate in the immediate response to critical situations ?
To review and adapt nutrition inputs/interventions in emergency and recovery responses
Other issues ?
Contribute to the development of ICRC/Economic Security strategies and policies ?
Represent the ICRC at nutrition-related forums ?
Support capacity building of ICRC staff and partners ?
Organize/participate in internal/external workshops and seminars
Selection requirements
Prepared to accept unaccompanied postings during the first 24 months of collaboration ? Nutritionist, nurse or medical doctor ?
University degree in the fields of nutrition, public health or related subject ?
Minimum of 3 years professional experience in one of the above mentioned field ? Humanitarian field experience is a must as well as in emergency response ?
Excellent command of French and English - Arabic, Spanish or Russian is an asset ? Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet software and basic nutrition computer programmes ?
Driving license (must cover manual transmission – a license for automatic-transmission vehicles only is not sufficient)
