The Food and Nutrition Security Training programme of the Centre for Development Innovation - Wageningen UR is pleased to announce the organisation of the ‘International Course on Linking emergency aid to food and nutrition security to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from November 3 - November 14, 2014’. Emergency or food aid is often criticised as a donor driven response, creating dependency in the short term, and undermining incentives for local agricultural development in the longer term. Increasingly, a call is heard to more rapidly build the resilience of communities in need of emergency assistance. However, organisations equipped for providing emergency assistance are not yet always equipped to provide the assistance necessary to build resilience and to provide support for a more sustainable food and livelihood security. As participant in this course you will gain insights into the typology of emergencies and the responses that contribute to food and nutrition security. The course will enhance awareness about the causes of food insecurity beyond the direct context of households. Participants will be provided with insights for lobbying and advocacy for policies to facilitate a more developmental approach to emergency response and rehabilitation. At the end of the course, you will be able to develop programmes or interventions to contribute to sustainable livelihood security.
