Summary The Consultant – Nutritional Causal Analyses (NCA) will perform 2 NCAs in Yemen, one in Taiz and one in Sana’a over an estimated (to be confirmed with Consultant) 6 to 8 week period. Back ground and Justification: Yemen is amongst the countries with the highest level of child malnutrition. In 2014 an estimated 1 million children are suffering from acute malnutrition and a little over a quarter of these are severe acute malnourished. IMC and nutrition cluster partners have been responding to emergency levels of child malnutrition for the last three years. CMAM programmes have thus been scaled up in recent years. By Dec 2013 a total of 1,312 OTP (Outpatient Therapeutic Program), 588 SFP (Supplementary Feeding Program) and 28 SCs (Stabilization Centres) had become operational. Despite the scale of the above, there is still a dearth of real information and understanding about the immediate and underlying causes of malnutrition, and the potential actions that could be put in place to address them To inform the decision making in planning and designing of activities to effectively address the underlying and basic causes of malnutrition in the 2 main areas of operation of IMC, two NCAs are planned. Specific Tasks: 1. Desk review of all available literature on the Nutritional situation in Yemen (from Consultants base (1 week) 2. Meet stakeholders in Yemen to complete the above – including NGO, UN and Government representatives (1 week) 3. Train staff for both locations (brought together in one location) on methodology (1 week) 4. Complete NCA in Taiz (2 weeks – including draft report) 5. Complete NCA in Sana’a (2 weeks – including draft report) 6. Finalize reports in Sana’a and complete 2 presentations – one internal for IMC and one external for partners Deliverables 1. Two NCAs completed – reports shared with IMC, and with Donors and partners during the course of a presentation Qualifications: Technical Background and Experience: 1. Masters degree or a Bachelors degree plus adequate field experience in public health, nutrition, anthropology or other related field or significant experience 2. Experience in humanitarian settings and insecure working environments. 3. Demonstrated technical knowledge in conducting NCAs, including training field staff in the methodology 4. Excellent communication, organizational skills and ability to work in a team. 5. Computer and analytical skills, including word processing, spread sheet and other software packages/ systems is required.
