An integral part of UNHCR’s strategic plan for 2014 – 2018 is to improve the preventative aspects of under nutrition in refugee settings worldwide. As a complement to exiting programmes, standard operating procedures, initiatives and policies, UNHCR plans to strengthen infant and young child feeding practices (IYCF). Data collected through UNHCR standardized expanded nutrition surveys (SENS) highlight many areas for improvement in the domain of IYCF in a range of refugee situations. Whilst UNHCR and partners already have some experience in programming for improvement of IYCF, field based staff are still requesting additional guidance in refugee situations. The aim is, by the end 2018 to make all refugee camps “IYCF friendly”, ensuring that there are a minimum set of standards and activities in place to improve infant and young child feeding. UNHCR have launched a call for expression of interest for a partnership on an IYCF friendly framework for action for refugee situations. Interested organisations or individuals should submit a concept note to HQPHN@unhcr.org by the 30th November 2013.
