PROGRAM BACKGROUND: International Medical Corps in Chad is seeking an experienced Lead Nutritionist with food security experience who will manage the nutrition and food security component of an IMC-led consortium for a three year multi-million dollar project funded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DfID). The Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extremes and Disasters Programme (BRACED) aims to build the resilience of households and communities in the Sahel to cope with climate extremes by improving and diversifying livelihoods, developing shared management systems of resources critical to resilience and embedding disaster risk reduction and adaptation into climate change and development responses. The proposed program, in coordination with consortium members, will seek to reinforce local governance and build local capacity to anticipate and reduce disaster risk by strengthening and diversifying nutritional resources, strengthening livelihood, and improve community management of local resources. The Lead Nutritionist will be responsible for the nutritional component of the project which will aim to diversify crops for nutritional value in kitchen and wadi gardens including seed selection for high nutritional value and nutrition education for households. JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Nutritionist will be responsible for the overall management of the nutrition and food security component of the program including coordinating with partners, implementation, supervision of activities, monitoring and evaluation and data collection. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Technical Program Management - Manage International Medical Corps’ nutrition and food security activities as part of an integrated disaster risk reduction program. - Manage nutrition program staff and ensure the implementation of program activities as specified in the workplan, ensure that they are aligned with best practice in the nutrition, food security and livelihood sector and conform to internationally accepted standards and country guidelines. - Oversee the mother care groups (MCG) and social behavior and change (SBC) components - Coordinate and collaborate with other program sectors (WASH, health, agriculture, etc) as appropriate. - Document all processes and outputs of capacity building, coordination and management of activities to ensure experiences and lessons are well documented for future reference - Prepare an M&E plan for the food security, nutrition, WASH and health component and provide progress updates to the program manager and consortium members. - Submit quarterly, mid-term and final technical reports as may be required by the project documents and in a timely manner - Work with nutrition team and consortium members on developing and conducting surveys and evaluations as needed. This could include knowledge, attitudes and practices, SMART and other surveys . 4. Training/ Capacity Building - Determine training needs for national staff to increase their responsibilities in order to build capacity and ensure sustainability of programs - Train national staff, community health workers and leader mothers to implement the MCG program - Advocate and plan for professional development for all staff Coordination and Representation - Regularly attend program review meetings with consortium members to ensure coordination and implementation of activities according to program objectives. - Represent the consortium at local and UN coordination meetings. - Ensure contribution to BRACED Component C by sharing knowledge and evidence on adaptation and DRR with the Knowledge, Evidence and Research manager. - Liaise and maintain good working relationships with local government and national government officials and stakeholders. - Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organizations Code of Conduct, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to internal and external actors REQUIREMENTS - Master’s degree in food security, nutrition, agricultural sciences, humanitarian assistance and/or in a relevant field of study. - Proven experience in long term disaster risk reduction programming which integrates food security, nutrition, health and WASH. - Proven experience in social behavior change and care group model - Experience conducting nutrition and food security assessments - At least 8 years experience working in Sahel context - Experience working with DFID. - Very strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to take the initiative - Knowledgeable about latest development best practices relating to nutrition such as the latest WHO changes relating to child growth standards, acute malnutrition and CMAM and latest SBC techniques and tools - Possess proven analytical and problem solving and interpersonal skills - Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively - Ability to work in hardship conditions and in conflict-prone areas; ability to be flexible - Project startup experience preferred Languages: - Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical in the French and English language. - Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, senior and local government leaders and other related regional players Conditions: - Accommodation, food and transportation provided by the organization - Medical Evacuation service and competitive benefits provided by the organization - Further information regarding security and situation on the field available during the interview process - While performing duties of the job, the employee frequently works in precarious and remote places.
