HI How to manage SAM children with diabetes in OTP, should continue on RUTF ? how to prescribe it ? is the daily amount should be adapted ? please, waiting urgent feedback
kindly note that you are dealing with two serious situations and you have to weigh whether it is the diabetes or SAM that is the 'worse evil' so to say and delicately try together with your doctor treating the child to balance caloric need/requirements bearing in mind that RUTF is made from simple sugars with extremely high glycaemic index or absorption capacity. Note how much insulin the child is using [if indicated ] also ask doctor what type of diabetes are you dealing with type 1 or 2. Then assess also the other foods being consumed and carefully calculate the child's needs and balance them with insulin intake to save life. Also remember to note inter current illness such as renal failure which could alter management

Hi, Very important question, I will suggest to treat the patient in stabilization centre, get expert opinion from a pediatrician or refer for the secondary care if pediatrician not available in the SC. Will like to see more opinions. Best
