Location: Global The Emergency Nutrition Advisor will serve as a critical member of the Emergency Health and Nutrition (EHN) team in promoting high quality emergency nutrition programming globally. To this end, the Emergency Nutrition Advisor will play a significant technical role in ensuring programming quality and innovation by leading the direction and oversight of SCUS’ emergency nutrition operations research portfolio, providing technical support to SC country programs and serving as a first responder and backstop to SC humanitarian responses. The Advisor will work closely with Save the Children colleagues from both technical and emergency response departments across the SC Global Movement to facilitate emergency nutrition program learning, build agency wide capacity and identify opportunities for growing the emergency nutrition portfolio. The Advisor will coordinate and collaborate with Save the Children International’s emergency structures as well as represent the agency in select global emergency nutrition forums. Responsibilities Play a significant role in defining SC’s emergency nutrition vision, strategy and operational plan in collaboration with the Emergency Nutrition Team Leader Provide direction and leadership to the design, testing, and evaluation of innovations to advance emergency nutrition programming with specific reference to those areas identified as EHN priorities (i.e. – MAMI, IYCF-E). in collaboration with the Emergency Nutrition Team Leader Monitor developments and identify research gaps in the field of emergency nutrition, identifying and pursuing new operations research opportunities at country and regional levels. Serve as a principal expert in emergency nutrition within SC and with external partners at key meetings and learning opportunities. Deploy to Category 1 and 2 emergencies, as needed, as a Senior Nutrition Advisor to lead emergency nutrition response (including leading rapid assessments and surveys, devising response plans and master budgets, mobilizing resources, overseeing program implementation, recruitment and procurement); Provide remote backstopping to Category 1 and 2 humanitarian crises, reviewing response strategies, sector program plans, supporting recruitment, advocacy/communications/ media strategies. Play a lead role in building SC staff capacity to design and deliver quality emergency nutrition programming through the development and/or dissemination of training curriculum, evidence-based program standards, guidance, and tools in collaboration with emergency nutrition team Provide direct technical support for the development of quality emergency nutrition project proposals, both from SC-US and from SCI members sourcing US-based funding streams Develop and sustain donor and partner relationships, including with academic institutions and technical personnel Participate in the development of emergency nutrition related policy and advocacy positions and support their dissemination. Collaborate with nutrition colleagues, more broadly, to ensure emergency nutrition activities are consistent with country strategic direction, and strive toward integration with other sectors and smooth transition from emergency to development Requirements Masters degree or higher in public health nutrition or related field Considerable field experience in humanitarian or relief work in developing countries (7 years), with extensive work in emergency situations (including quick onset emergency). Expertise in research methodologies and experience in designing and leading operations research in emergency nutrition required Experience and recognition as technical leader required Experience in a variety of emergency nutrition programming areas required; expertise in MAMI and IYCF-E preferred Proven ability to develop and apply monitoring and evaluation plans to determine program results and monitor impact, including conducting and analyzing nutrition surveys and rapid assessments required.
