Action Against Hunger (ACF) was founded by a group of prominent French figures in response to the emergency caused by Afghan refugees fleeing to Pakistan to escape fighting in 1979, with the aim of eradicating hunger in a more global, lasting and effective way worldwide. ACF’s mission consists of saving lives via the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and following disasters and conflicts. The organisation focuses its activities on an integrated approach, taking various aspects into account: “Nutrition, health and healthcare practices”, “Food security and livelihoods”, “Water, sanitation and hygiene” and “Advocacy and awareness-raising”: In 2009, ACF-International was active in over 40 countries, coming to the aid of around 5 million individuals. By integrating our programmes with regional and national systems, ACF is ensuring that short-term actions are becoming long-term solutions.
We are looking for: A HEAD OF NUTRITION AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Based in: INDIA – New Delhi
Length of Contract: 6 months, starting October the 1st
General objective: To lead the implementation, review and update of the country nutrition strategy and annual action plan in collaboration with nutrition team members and support from the Country Director. The Head of Nutrition and Health Department will be responsible for:
1. Design, develop and evaluate actions in the field of nutrition and health
- Collect and quality control of monitoring, follow up and evaluation data
- Maintain quality for the nutritional situation analysis
- Assess the standard of nutritional and medical proposals submitted by his/her teams
- Encourage his/her teams to identify new programmes
- Develop an ACF nutrition and health strategy specific to the mission
2. Monitor and coordinate programmes in the fields of nutrition and health
- Launch nutritional surveys in liaison with the Country Director
- Develop integrated (inter-disciplinary) approach programmes
- Collect and anlysedata, including the decisions making on this basis
- Provide timely and high quality activity reports
- Monitoring all the consolidated programme budgets relating to nutrition and health allocated to the country
3. Manage the Nutrition and Health team in capital and bring technical support to the Nutrition and Health Program Managers
- Evaluate of the technical performance and skills of Programme Managers
- Develop the technical skills of Nutrition and Health teams
4. Develop and launch programmes in collaboration with governmental, UN, international and local agencies
- Disseminate ACF’s nutrition and health strategy at country level to partners and funding bodies
- Develop and maintain a network of harmonious and productive relationships with national representatives and programme partners
5. Represent ACF and its positioning in the field of nutrition and health
- Represent ACF in dealings with national and international authorities on matters of health and nutrition
- Make national and international authorities fully aware of the ACF positions and protocols
Qualification and previous experience:
Nutritionist, medical doctor or nurse with experience in relief and development field is compulsory. Minimum two years field experience in implementing and managing nutrition programmes. Technical expertise in CMAM and/or SMART is required. Experience in working and /coordinating mid-term/development oriented type of programmes. Experience in technical advocacy/collaboration with governmental departments would be an asset. Ability to have a broad vision integrating different aspects (logistics, context, culture and traditions, etc.). Computer proficiency in word processing, database, spread sheet and graphics presentations. Fully fluent in English. Ability to work in a highly sensitive environment. Diplomacy and negotiation skills requested, and extensive training experience a must. Excellent proposal writing experience. South Asian experience preferred
Status: Employee
- Total average yearly gross income : from 44910€ to 51410€
- Fixed-term contract, provided by ACF according to the French legislation.
- All expenses paid on the field:
o Support to the R & R costs : 110€/month average
o Transportation costs to and from the mission : 460€/ month average,
o Collective or individual accommodation depending on position : 700€/month average
o Food and hygiene expenses (living allowance) : 274€/month
o Per Diem : 185€/month
- Gross monthly salary ranging from €1805 to €2305 (13rd month included), depending on relevant experience
- Social benefits: Medical, life and accident insurance provided by the institution
- 25 days of annual paid leaves
- 20 days of extra leaves per year (taken as recovery time breaks of one week every 2 or 4 months depending on the mission)
