Nutrition and Food Security Survey in the Dry Zone, Myanmar
Background
There have been concerted efforts to improve food security and nutrition assessment, surveillance and programming to ensure that the three pillars of food security are addressed. Ensuring that good quality nutrition data is collected as part of a household food security assessment is core to being able to draw causal pathways and associations which might better help us understand malnutrition in the dry zone and therefore inform programme design and decisions.
A full nutrition survey in the three agro ecological areas of the Dry Zone is planned including anthropometrics, diet diversity (household and child under 5) and frequency, basic morbidity, water use and access, supplementation, latrine use and health seeking practices for PLW and U5s.
Objectives of the Survey
1. Identify the prevalence and severity of malnutrition, by agro-ecological zone in the dry zone.
2. Understand the practices against recommended IYCF behaviours in the Dry Zone
3. Integrate the nutrition survey with the food security assessment to ensure the full data set can be analyzed and a better understanding gained of the food security situation by household within each agro-ecological zone. Drawing comparisons between zones and correlations with core nutrition and anthropometric data.
