The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading global humanitarian and post-conflict development organisation working in more than 20 conflict-affected countries worldwide. IRC-UK is the European headquarters, established in 1997 as an independent British charity. IRC-UK contributes to programme management, fundraising for overseas programmes, and policy and advocacy on conflict-related issues in Britain and Europe. As a member of both the IRC’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit (EPRU) and the Health Unit, the Senior Emergency Health Coordinator will provide leadership and technical direction in strengthening an effective, high quality and timely emergency health response with emphasis in emergency nutrition responses, as well as coordinating different components of primary and reproductive health responses. S/he will be based in the IRC-UK office in London and deployed in the field, either in an emergency or roving capacity, for up to 50-60% of the year for an average of 6-8 weeks at any one time. During emergency deployments ERT staff will work under the direction of IRC’s Emergency Field Director or designated country emergency lead. During times with no acute emergency deployment the ERT Senior Health Coordinator will report to Senior Technical Advisor for the Health Unit and the IRC-UK Emergency Field Director. In addition to significant responsibilities in the field of emergency response and emergency preparedness, the Senior Emergency Health Coordinator will play a key role in the IRC-UK office, representing the IRC in global inter-agency working groups and networks, undertaking technical assessments and evaluations and supporting the continuing development of the overall strategic approach in emergency health response. The position requires at least 6 years emergency primary health and nutrition experience including CMAM. Candidates should have a medical degree and preferably a Masters in Public Health, Nutrition or related field. Right to work in the UK is also essential for this role.
